AWARDS 2007, UK GAEA AND CHEF LEFTERIS WON THE 3 STARS
GOLD AWARD IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY OSCARS
Gaea’s Cretan Sauce created by Greek Michelin Star Chef
Lefteris Lazarou from the Greek island tradition and
the ingredients of the authentic Greek Salad was the
only pasta sauce that got the top award, 3 Stars Gold
Medal, in this years UK’s Great Taste Awards, also known
as the Oscars of the Food Industry.
This year, a major change to the awards themselves
has been generated. Bronze and silver have been discontinued.
Instead, the organizers presented one-, two- and three-star
gold awards. Like their Michelin equivalents, these
aim to give retailers and producers a real point of
difference from the multiples – and give consumers an
accessible and authoritative standard to help guide
their purchasing decisions.
According to the organizers “As a rough guide, one-star
awards will go to products that fully meet the judges’
rigourous standards. Two-star products are the ones
that set those standards. But to earn a three-star grade,
an entry needs that indefinable ‘something extra’ -
the little bit of magic that sets it apart not just
from products of the same type, but in the world of
fine food as a whole”
The committee consisting of UK’s most renowned food
journalists and degustateurs did not consider any of
the contenders in the Pasta Sauces category worth the
2 Star distinction, gave 1 Star Gold to the sauces of
the famous Chef Jamie Oliver and to those of Marks &
Spencer and gave only one 3 Star Gold distinction to
Gaea.
It’s worth noting that only 8 products across all categories
and from a total of 4.500 entries were deemed worthy
of the prestigious 3 Star Gold award.
7 thereof were invariably produced by small workshops
and restaurants within the UK territory and only 1,
Gaea’s sauce, comes from abroad.
MORE AWARDS…
At the same time Gaea shined with two more international
distinctions:
Gaea D.O.P. Sitia, Crete Extra Virgin Olive Oil took
the Gold Award during a contest in Denmark as the Best
Olive Oil in the Danish Market.
Moreover, during the “World Food Moscow 2007, 3 more
Gaea products – “Gaea DOP Kalamata Extra Virgin Olive
Oil”, our recent launch “Gaea PGI Laconia Extra Virgin
Olive Oil” and “Gaea Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Natural
Oregano” were awarded with Gold Medal as the “Best Products
2007” in the Russian market, whereas “Gaea Mixed Olives”
took the Silver Award in the same contest.
